Aeration and top dressing are two actions our Tifton Turf team can perform to help
improve the health of athletic fields or as part of sprig planting prep.
Aeration, usually referred to as core aeration, utilizes a machine, known as a lawn
aerator, to remove cores or plugs from the soil of a lawn. It reduces soil compaction,
creating a way for oxygen, water and other nutrients to get to the soil. When we
core aerate, we create plugs of about ½ to ¾ of an inch. Those plugs are left on the
ground to go back into the soil, giving it vital nutrients.
Topdressing is an improvement method that involves applying compost to the
surface to improve soil conditions and overall turf health. Topdressing infuses the
soil with microbes and minerals to improve drought resistance and compaction.
Used together these two actions give turf a great chance at good health, whether
starting fresh or trying to rebuild.
Standing water on athletic fields and golf courses not only destroys the turf but can cause additional damage to nearby buildings and players. Tifton Turf designs and installs drainage solutions for new and established sports fields using a variety of solutions, including drain tile.
Our field stripping services are designed to remove existing vegetation and
organic matter from the playing surface of athletic fields to expose soil. The process
leaves a clean surface ready for renovation. Typically we are able to remove
between 1.5 and 2 inches of existing turf.
A smooth playing surface with the correct slope not only helps with drainage and
erosion, but enhances the performance of the athletes out on the field. Tifton Turf
offers laser grading as a more exact method of leveling the playing field. Our
certified team has years of training and experience to ensure field designs are met.
At Tifton Turf we understand that updating greens shouldn’t mean having to start
from scratch. Our no-till greens conversion allows us to change or update the
grass on greens without removing the existing turf. This process ensures the green
contours are exactly as they were before, but with an improved turf.
Our years of experience tell us that sometimes sod is not the answer, especially for
large areas like athletic fields and golf courses. In fact, specific grass varieties
suggest sprig planting for the best results. Our Tifton Turf team uses custom built machinery to completely shred the stolons of mature bermudagrass strands. We then use our custom-built planters to give you the healthiest and fastest growing strand of turf possible.
